Hot Weather & Vacation Watering Solutions

When temperatures increase, it can be hard to keep certain types of containers properly hydrated. Hanging baskets and window boxes can need watering almost twice a day during hot spells. To help increase moist retention and reduce plant stress, try one or more of the following products.

Miracle Gro Moisture Control. Miracle-Gro potting mix contains AquaCoir, an exclusive blend of coconut fibers and sphagnum peat moss that releases water slowly to help reduce plant stress. Helps to promote an excellent growing environment by protecting plants against the effects of under and over watering. Enriched with Miracle-Gro plant food for superior growth.

Gel Spikes. The DirectRoot GelSpike utilizes DriWater time-release water, a patented, all-natural combination of 98% pure water and 2% cellulose gum and alum. The water, now in gel form, slowly releases when it comes into contact with the soil, giving you worry-free watering for 2 to 3 weeks. Safe around children and animals. Simply unscrew the cap, set it on the WaterSpike, puncture the label, and the gel gently slides into the WaterSpike, where naturally occurring bacteria in the soil will cause it to slowly dissolve back into pure water, right at the roots of your plant. No mess. No spills. No risk of overwatering. Better yet, the WaterSpike stays in the soil to give you the year-round benefits of more efficient watering and aeration. Recommended number of GelSpikes per pot diameter: Up to 10" - 1 spike; 10" to 14" - 2 spikes; 14" or greater - 3 spikes.

Soil Moist. Soil Moist granules help growers and gardeners grow and maintain vigorous plants. They are granules that retain and release water when plant is in need. Soil Moist is an effective water management aid designed to reduce the amount of plant waterings. It encourages deep root growth and penetration, reduces soil compaction, minimizes transplant shock, and lasts several seasons.
