Selecting Shade Tolerant Plants

Most blooming shade plants do their best in a bright shade location. This can be a location that gets a bit of morning sun (but no afternoon sun) or dappled sunlight underneath a tree. In deep shade locations, stick with foliage plants like ferns and hostas for best growing results.

Following are some shade tolerant plants for you to try in your garden:

Annuals. Begonia, impatiens, mimulus, coleus, torenia, browalia, and caladium

Perennials. Hosta, ferns, azaleas, camellias, fuchsias, rhododendrons, cyclamen, primula, coral bells, lamium, sweet potato vine, aralia, philodendron, boxwood, hydrangea, holly, privet, vinca, lily turf and ivy.
